What happens to my pets if I have an accident and I am in hospital or die?

I live alone. My cat will be OK as she has a cat door and a feeder which I use to feed her even though I am not on holiday. This will give her food for two weeks if I am not there, after that she will find food outside. What about my rats? They would have a problem. I could even die at home and the police will only break in after many weeks after complaints about the smell of my rotting body. How to I protect my petsWhat happens to my pets if I have an accident and I am in hospital or die?sounds as if u may not have a person you are happy to ask to check on things periodically.an option may be to have an arrangement with someone, if poss, that if you dont ring them on a certain day of the week, could they ring u, %26amp; if no answer, would they pl notify social services or the police. . The note re care of pets left out for any to see is a good idea.

They will have to pay your debtsWhat happens to my pets if I have an accident and I am in hospital or die? They go to the pound or shelter unless you have someone who has agreed to take them and you leave a note someone for them to find. What happens to my pets if I have an accident and I am in hospital or die?
dont say things like that please there are too many people dieing in this world as it isWhat happens to my pets if I have an accident and I am in hospital or die?Well I hope that you have family and friends that call you and come over to check on you to see how your doing.
There are a few different ways, the best being you talk to your friends about this. A friend of mine has a key to my house, so if I disappear, she can always get into the house. If you really live alone and don't have close friends, you can talk to a nieghbor you trust to check on you, but if you are healthy now, it's kind of an odd request. I know that some people have stickers in their front window alerting emergency services that there are animals in the home.

but ultimately, you may have to devise some kind of edible latch on the cages if you want the rats to be able to get out. What happens to my pets if I have an accident and I am in hospital or die?
perhaps you can make arrangements with a friend or relative in case that should happen, which hopefully won't any time soon. someone might be willing to be a pet sitter while you're recovering at the hospital. i'm not sure if this service is offered, but you might also want to look into pet insurance in case of death of owner. otherwise, they are likely to either die before they are discovered or get taken to an animal shelter if they are found in time.
hopefully you have friends or a job that would notice if you didn't show up and they hadn't heard from you. it shouldn't take wks for a job to alert police to an unexplained absence especially if you are a reliable worker.

as far as the care of your animals is concerned, more and more people are leaving care instructions in their wills. this would include setting aside some money for their care and who you want the animals to go to. you should obviously discuss this with the intended caretaker in advance. What happens to my pets if I have an accident and I am in hospital or die?
The rats will usually gnaw their way out, they are very intelligent, they may even turn canibalistic and eat each other as hampsters and gerbils do.If you live alone ,you should always have arrangements in place for the care of pets.In the case of parrots ,which can live many years, you should make provision in your will, either for their care ,or giving them to a zoo or other animal care venture that will take them on .
Assuming you are elderly, have a neighbor come in every two weeks to see if you are still alive. If you havent already done so, update your will to include instructions on what you want done with them. You can have them sent for adoption or donate them to the local school for the kids to take care of or something..
Some insurance companies have come out with pet insuance and also have something written in writting about your pets if you get sick or die.
if you have a friend or neighbour you could ask them to keep checking up on you so if you did die then your pets could me taken to an animal shelter or someting like that.
piece of advice write your will early. that way the cops will find it.
That is a very good question! That is the only reason why I do not have another dog!!In answer to your question!!Do you have a good friendly neighbour who would look after your pets??
I know for fires they have those stickers to put in the window, so you should start with that. Have someone call you daily if you can, I have my dad do that every morning due to a medical condition. Even if it is a neighbor, just anyone to call at the same time daily. Good luck.
You should make arrangements with a friend or family member ahead of time. Put it in writing just like you would a will or any other legal document. Keep a copy in a safety deposit box. Give a copy to the friend/family member, and keep a copy prominently displayed in your house - like on the refrigerator. That way if something happens, the authorities will know who to contact about your animals.
They would be looked after by RSPCA. You should choose someone trustworthy to check on you every couple of days , by phone or dropping in, %26amp; give them a key for emergencies. They can then alert the services needed. I know of someone who did this, %26amp; also left money for pets to be cared for when they pass away. Not something we like to think about, but where pets (and yourself)are concerned these things shoul;d be planned. Perhaps someone in the same situation as yourself would be ideal, then you can help each other.
It's no good asking us about it all - we can't arrange something for you. Speak with someone close- a friend, relative or neighbour - and ask them about looking after your pets should anything happen to you.
