People food is a no no, and causes obesity. If pet food is supposed to be healthy, why do you think so many people have obese pets?
Because most owners don't follow the feeding instructions... OR, in some cases, they follow the feeding instructions... But the instructions may be wrong for their dog, and it leads to overfeeding.
Also, people are so bad about giving table scraps on top of the dogs regular eating habits...
And, not all pet food is healthy. Especially dog foods (and others, I just know most about the dog foods). Most name brands you see in grocery stores and walmarts are actually severely unhealthy. If pet food is supposed to be healthy, why do you think so many people have obese pets? Most pet foods on the market are NOT healthy for your pet. Brands like Purina, Iams and Beneful are not as healthy as the bag says they are. They are loaded with by-products, artificial flavors and colors and all kinds of crap they can throw in it. You'd be surprised! (Go to the website below and watch the video on the home page. It's disgusting what pet food companies feed your pet.
As for obesity most people let their pet free feed and don't exercise them enough. It's just like humans. Plus they feed them scraps. If pet food is supposed to be healthy, why do you think so many people have obese pets?
A lot of the pet food that is available for our animals is not really healthy. It's really the same as food we eat. The good, cheap, easy food is the worst for us and our pets. Most of the major brands are not popular for the actual content of their food but rather the prices they charge for it. If you look at the ingredients in most dog foods the main things used are animal by-products (leftovers from butchering process including fat) and fillers such as corn and grains which many dogs are allergic to and also add up to empty calories. Lastly, and this came straight from my vet, remember when looking at the recommended amounts to feed that are printed on the bags of dog food that the companies main goal is to sell more dog food not to make sure that your pet is getting the proper amount of exercise to burn all of those calories. If pet food is supposed to be healthy, why do you think so many people have obese pets?Well, it depends on what kind of food people are giving pets and the quantity. Most people look at prices on pet food bags instead of the ingredients of the food. Like, cats, for example. They need a high protein diet. If you go to your local grocer and check the ingredients of most cat foods, you will find the first ingredient to be ground corn meal. Usually they list ingredients by quantity in the food. The best type of food would be to find the first ingredient to be chicken, or beef. Believe it or not, fish is not the best for cats.
The other thing people do wrong when feeding pets is portion control. Most owners free feed their animals, meaning they let their pet graze. This is bad, it is best to feed pets portions according to their Weight twice daily. You should always ask a vet how much to feed your pet. Don't go by the portions listed on pet food bags because most are looking for profit, not the well being of your pet.
OH! please don't feed pets human food!!! Animals cant handle certain things like humans can such as garlic, onion, grapes, raisins, hot pepper, and of course chocolate. You can find these ingredients hidden in a lot of human food.If pet food is supposed to be healthy, why do you think so many people have obese pets?
Over-feeding and feeding table scraps. The biggest issue is lack of exercise. Many apparently think walking a dog is optional or that the backyard is a substitute for getting off the couch and taking the dog out. It's not.If pet food is supposed to be healthy, why do you think so many people have obese pets?
Because owner's feed their pets way to much. Pets put on weight a lot easier than humans do, so food moderation is very important. Something a lot of owners don't pay attention to
