Are there any nice pets that are less likely to cause an allergy?

I am allergic to a lot of animals but I really want a furry, cute pet. Are there any pets that are known not to cause allergies? If you can get over the long tail, rats tend to make better pets than hamsters because they are more social, which typically means they bite less. Rats are also usually very cuddly. Your local animal shelter might even have one that you can adopt.
