What dogs make good family pets?

I would like to know what dogs would make good family pets for a family with a 13 and an 8 year old?

and also what dogs would not make good family pets? What dogs make good family pets?Small dog breeds are great pets, but since their personalities are all different, it's a good idea to look at their individual characteristics to see if they fit with your lifestyle.

Pomeranians developed from a much larger dog breed and seem to have retained the mellow character. They are good with children if they have been raised with them from puppyhood. They are playful and active. They tend to bark and require daily grooming.

Good luck.......Have a nice evening xxWhat dogs make good family pets?
Labs, Golden Retrievers, Wheaton Terriors- are medium-large and get along with kids...but they need a lot of excersise w/ a big back yard! What dogs make good family pets?golden retrieverWhat dogs make good family pets?
WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER THE DOG. DO YOU LIVE ON A FARM OR IN AN APARTMENT?

FARM FOR A BIG DOG, A POODLE IN AN APARTMENT.What dogs make good family pets?Jack Russells are great dogs. Very smart and always very sweet.
retrivers, labs, boxers, and beaglesWhat dogs make good family pets?
wiener dogs of course
english springer great dog lods of fun i have two kids 9 and 11What dogs make good family pets?
LABRADORS HAVE THE BEST TEMPERAMENT!!!!
i know exactly the dog that would be goog for that a daschund they are very goo around animals i have one of them
If you're looking for a medium sized dog try Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever if you can get one. I have one and she is wonderful she is very loving and she doesn't bite or snap at anything or try a Lab I also have one and he's very loving and easy going as well.
Boxers- they are really friendly and good with kids. I know this because I have one and I got her when I was about 9.
I am partial to collies, I had one growing up. She was like a nanny to me and my three siblings. I look forward to getting one for my children someday. There is a lot of up-keep with the hair but thats about it.

I am not a fan of "little" dogs, they always seems to be nippy and wild, especially when you have younger children.

Or I would like to get a Golden Retriever. I have heard nothing but good things from owners of that breed.
big dogs are nice. small dogs are not. that's not my opinion. it's a fact:)

enjoy
all my dogs are little

i have a bishon frieze

and two other ones im not sure what they are, but the snuggle and play...

they are so cute!!

but i love little dogs and big dogs life labs and stuff
Lurchers are really good and as they're not pedigree they're usually cheap or free. Ask the RSPCA for one.

If you don't know the breed they're like smaller slightly shaggy greyhounds. They are lazy, tolerant, soft and great with kids. You do need to let them run most days, but when they're not doing that they just loaf about or sleep.
dachsunds
Labs are great I have one ..and I also have a schnoodle and he is wonderful
A lovely big rottweiler, they are sweety pies!
border collies, they are fun and smart and they make you laugh. i have one. they have lots of energy and my dog never bit or growled at anyone
Different dogs satisfy different people. I have 4 dogs - 2 Bichon Frises (poodle family), a Jack Russell and an Alsation, and in my family there is a 4 year old, a 12 year old and a 15 year old. A good, friendly dog is a Lhasa Apso / Shi Tzu, or a Golden Retriver, Westland Highland White Terrier or a Whippet. Heres a good website, explaining some of the dog's mentioned. http://www.petplace.com/dogs/top-dog-breeds-for-families/page1.aspx

Dog's I would say that are not so good, are dogs like German Shepards, because sometimes, they can get a little vicious, even if they have been in the family since puppies.
I have to say it's a tie between Labs and Golden Retrievers.
Labs and golden retrievers always seem to come out top when people get asked this question, as they are generally calm around children and easily trained, their willingness to learn and to please makes it alot easier to get children involved in the training, exercising and caring of the dog and as i'm sure kids of 8 and 13 would want to do.

If labs are too big, spaniels are great, bouncy, lovable playful things, that are highly intelligent and would definatly grow up along with the kids (they calm down, and get more peaceful with age).

Also, many types of terriers work well in family enviroments, notably Jack Russells, who undoubtably love a bit of ruff and tumble.

No matter what breed of dog you end up with, one of the most important things in ensuring that it is a family pet, is to try and get everyone spending time with it. Dogs can quickly pick an individual out as the one most like to feed/praise/cuddle/play with it. So, make sure everyone is involved and puppy won't learn to play favourites.
well, i have a cocker spaniel, and I'm 13 and my sister is 8 he's really nice but you can' t depend on the breed of the dog. In order to have a nice dog you have to train REAL well.
pugs, golden retrievers, labs, make good family pets

husky's, usually only like to bond with one person
well labradours are really good family pets, they are really calm and friendly- so many are trained to be guide dogs, be careful with the chocolate coloured ones - my nan and my friend both have one, they both agree that in their early years they are constantly hyper!

But all dogs are cute you just have to pick the right one for you!
i got a staffie fab with children fun loving and very loyal loves people
We have an American Bull dog. He is GREAT! He ALWAYS wants to be with us and he loves to cuddle. He even gives hugs(we didn't teach it to him he just started it on his own ) the only concern is American bulldogs are VERY over protective of their families. So if a stranger comes around they are very causious(sp?) So if you decide to get one try to keep it socialized with people a lot and if someone comes over the dog has to see that you are letting them in and you are okay with them being there or it will probly growl and be protective. Otherwise a GREAT dog. LOOOVES kids.
Labrodors are very lazy and wouldn't hurt a fly, spanials are crazy and fun loving i have one and i'm 10.

Over 45,000 greyhounds get thrown out cause they are not fast enough to race, so you could adopt one.

I'd say Labrodors are the best because they are good with young children and are gentle.
Boxers are great! They are very nice and friendly dogs and they will stand by their owner. I like chows as well but you have to get them as puppies. Ive had two in my life as puppies and everytime my brothers cried, the dog came running to make sure no one was hurting them and they would stick around and make sure no danger would come near. Apparently they can be vicious but I think thats only if they are trained that way. Rotweilers are the perfect example. I have met nice ones and pure *******s
I am 13 and my bro is 11.

We have a mongrel, but she barks too much.

Alsations are lovely! They are just big softies!
