What breeds of snake make suitable pets ?

all the articles i've read reference corn snakes, ball pythons, milk and king snakes.

i would like to know of any other medium to large size snakes that make good pets.

also if anyone has tips on finding breeders, any links that might be useful, or perhaps pictures of these breeds they would be very much appreciated, thanks !What breeds of snake make suitable pets ?Many species of snake make suitable pets but it depends on whether or not you can afford to give them adequate care, your experience in keeping, and how comfortable you are with aggressive behavior. Corn snakes, ball pythons, milk snakes, and king snakes are all considered beginner species because they stay small, have easy care, and are generally very docile.

Other good "beginner" snakes are hognosed snakes, rosy boas, sand boas, and spotted and childrens pythons. These all stay small as well. You may have to look a bit harder to find them available but it's extremely easy to find them online from a breeder or buy locally from a breeder at an expo if you have one in your area.

If you're willing to spend the extra money to house a larger snake, there are other species that make suitable beginner snakes. But make sure you have the $300-500 needed for adequate housing. Womas and red tailed boas are good species. My favorites are definitely womas since they have some of the easiest care and are very docile and good feeders. But they cost a bit more.

There are other good species like rainbow boas and carpet pythons and blood pythons but their care is a bit more challenging and you might not want to keep them if you have little experience with snakes. Blood pythons especially can be aggressive if not properly tamed.

There are other species but these are just some common ones. I would suggest searching the classifieds on www.kingsnake.com or www.faunaclassifieds.com to find a breeder. Make sure the breeder can guarantee that the snake is feeding on f/t mice/rats before you buy it. Most breeders keep feeding records and should be able to show you pictures of the adults before you buy.

I owned a ball python for years. It was a GREAT pet. manageable size, good temperament, very friendly. It let me pull ticks out from under its scales, would crawl all over me while I walked around the house, and never bit me unless my hand was next to his food. (he started to go blind, and struck out at smells and sounds) I miss the old guy. What breeds of snake make suitable pets ?As a frilled dragon owner, i know a bit about reptiles, but snakes aren't really my main subject. My friend however is a bit of an enthusiast and he reccomends a green tree python, just for the sheer beauty and colours of the breed, if you can find them, and are willing to pay out, they're a great pet! What breeds of snake make suitable pets ?
