Why is it important to have or NOT have pets?

Why do you think pets are beneficial to a family, or just to a person living alone,

or on the other hand,

why do you think pets are bad for a family or a single person to have? Why is it important to have or NOT have pets?Absolutely, positively pets are beneficial to anyone and everyone PROVIDED they have the time to devote to doing it right.

I am going to try to list a few reasons and I am sure you will get many, many more. Please keep in mind I am a dog person so many of the reasons apply to dogs.

1. Teaches children responsibility, particularly in caring for others.

2. Dogs are the greatest real-life definition of unconditional love.

3. They make you get up everyday and go outside, even if it is very, very cold or raining or hot.

4. A security blanket....they know when something isn't just right at night.

5. You get to know a lot of different people, especially if you are single and you are starting to hang out way too much with people in your own occupation or work.

6. When out and about your neighborhood you will gain a bigger and better community.

7. The vet visits are great learning experiences.

8. They are so darn cute to watch.

9. You will be appreciated every single day without fail.

I can't wait to read the other responses!!Why is it important to have or NOT have pets?

I do not think pets are ever bad to have, but I do believe that it is bad for the pet, in some situations. Where the family cannot financially afford to take proper care of the animal, or they neglect them, abuse them, etc.Why is it important to have or NOT have pets?
if you have the wrong pet it can be very stressful, also it makes you less flexible with holidays and moving house. They are expensive, and many people don't have enough time to give pets the care they need.

However pets have been known to reduce stress, extend lives, keep people fit, teach responsibility, and provide companionship. Why is it important to have or NOT have pets?Good pets:

-Guinea pigs

-Rats

-Most breeds of dogs

I don't think it has to do with families or a single person you just have to be willing and ready to take care of the animal(s) and be ready for accidents and health problems. Why are you looking for a pet?
my experience is that they make a WONDERFUL antidepressantWhy is it important to have or NOT have pets?
I would not say that it is important to have pets, although they can be quite delightful It is important to NOT have pets if you are allergic to them.
I think pets can be a great addition to a family. They teach responsibility, offer companionship, and can be a lot of fun. The only downside is if the person(s) is not around to take care of the animal. Most of them need a lot of time and attention- especially dogs and cats. Fish are pretty low maintenance though but don't offer quite as much interaction. Why is it important to have or NOT have pets?
I think that pets are great for any family or person, given that their owners are able to care for them properly and give them everything they need in the way of food, shelter, vet care, and whatever else they require.

People tend to get pets because they think it will be "fun" without first properly considering the impact that this animal will have on their lives. Many animals are neglected and therefore abused due to this lapse of reasonable thought.
