Are rabbits affectionate pets and do they travel well by car?

Two hour drive to my parents about once a month. We can have rabbits in the dorms but I really want something that will be affectionate. I want a pet because I don't like people, thats why I made sure to get in the dorm that allows pets. Are rabbits affectionate pets and do they travel well by car? Some rabbits are affectionate, but many are not. As a prey animal, many are very wary of humans, and it can take a lot of time to earn enough trust that they will interact with you voluntarily. They are also extremely high maintenance animals. Make sure you know what you are getting into. There is some great care information here: http://www.rabbit.org/ They also have the potential to cause some very significant damage to a dorm room if not very strictly supervised during their exercise time (should be 4-6 hours daily), and most college students aren't going to have the time to allow them adequate supervised exercise time between their studies, social activities, and any job they might have. They're horrible for allergic people, and can have a strong odor if you aren't pretty militant about cleaning up after them, which means many roommates are going to be opposed to your keeping a rabbit in your dorm room.

They also many of them do not travel well at all. It's stressful for them. While some rabbits will be OK with a car trip, some will go off their food when stressed- which can sometimes mean death for a rabbit.

I did keep rabbits while in college, but they were transported only 1-2 times yearly at the most, and I was not the typical college student, did not have a normal dorm room setup, did not have a typical roommate, and had a private bathroom for cleanup. People aren't going to appreciate having a litter box rinsed out in a community bathroom. Are rabbits affectionate pets and do they travel well by car?Yes they can be, but I'd really put some serious thought into it before you got one. Some people will tell you they're furry and cuddly and adorable and they are..

I have 2 rabbits and I cant wait til they're gone.

They've cost thousands of dollars worth of damage. They've chewed through countless electrical cords, dvd covers, carpet, rugs, comforters, desks, etc etc etc. Every time I think I've rabbit proofed my room completely, they find something new to destroy. And they're extremely quick about it. Even when Im supervising them they manage to get to something. They need to chew, that's a given, but they'd rather chew my furniture and things that cant be replaced (atleast not without a load of money) --than the countless chew toys I leave out for them.

Rabbits also poop CONSTANTLY. They leave 2-300 rabbit droppings PER DAY. You have to clean them atleast twice a week or prepare for some serious stink.

I took one of my rabbits to get her out of a horrible situation. She was being abused and neglected. I got the other one as a pet for my first one.

I care for them, feed and water them, change their cage twice a week, pet them, and give them hours and hours out of their cage for play/exercise time ..but when they die I will never, EVER, in my lifetime --own another rabbit. Are rabbits affectionate pets and do they travel well by car?Rabbits are very affectionate pets, so I think they would be a great pet for you! They do well in cars, if you provide them with food, water and a place to sleep on the way there. Rabbits love to be held if you hold them a lot when they are babies. They are mostly like cats! You could have a little rabbit sitting on your lap heading to your parent's house=D
